Disease babies

I got my Peru vaccines today. Four of 'em. Yellow Fever, Dysentery, Hepatitis A, and a Tetanus booster. I also have to take 17 malaria pills that cost $6 a pop. I feel like Mr. Burns in that one episode of the Simpsons where he has every disease imaginable and that is why he never gets sick. I now have little baby diseases swimming around in me keeping my immune system in a perfect state of fragile equilibrium.

For those of you who aren't familiar with my upcoming Peru trip, on May 21 I'm going to Peru to study herbal medicine and spiritual healing in the Amazon Jungle with a shaman. The doctor asked me in the consultation where I was going to be staying---"in a hotel, hostel, or with a family?" I responded, "ummm....in the jungle". He pondered my response for a moment and then placed a check in the box marked "hostel" since, as he put it, hostels can be pretty dirty.

You poor thing, that looks painful. But it will all be worth it.

I think I need some disease babies in me right now. That'll kill the sickness gorillas already prancing around in there.

Ouch. That's an album cover if I've ever seen one. You look so hardcore! You could call it Disease Babies. Or maybe Bandaid Diaries. Whatever you're feeling.

Awesome. I have a mental image of sea monkeys swimming in blood right now. It's pretty badass.

Hmm... is that what's behind your fever? Boo on that shit! Hope you feel better.

I feel your pain. I was sporting a similiar style a couple weeks ago when I got all my shots for Brazil. Your trip sounds amazing. How did you set something like that up???

**Sorry everyone for taking so long to respond, I ended up getting sick from the vaccines all mixed up and swimming in my blood..damn those disease babies**

Jose, I will be in Peru for only a short time, 12 days. Who knows, maybe I'll be moved to spend more time down there apprenticing to become a shamana myself.

Hedy, thanks. It wasn't fun (nor was the horrible fever and chills that I got the next day) but I'm still looking forward to the trip.

Jeff-ster! Yay! A comment from J-Pop! How does an interpretive painter get an album without a band to interpret? Ohhhh, I got it! "Lesley and her Band-Aids" Lookin' for a gig??

Alie, I don't think I got quite as sick as your dad got, but I definitely had a reaction...grrr.

E, that's exactly what I had in mind too. Silly sea monkeys...

Jeremy, yes it is. Stupid vaccines. Even today my arms still hurt, but the fever only lasted about 24 hours...

La Espia, the trip is actually being put out by the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota. It is a very awesome branch of the U of M Med School.

Lesley, this sounds like a very cool trip. Sorry you're puny from the vaccinations.

My dream trip to South America is a couple of months on the Amazon observing tropical fish species in their natural habitats. My sons are my last hope; nobody else in my circle wants to go. So cross your fingers for me in 10 or 15 years.

Best of luck to you. Please be careful. And your public wants to hear all about it when you get back. (You can't handle this trip in a couple of paragraphs, so don't short-change us.) :)
